Playing & Professional Background:
Erick's baseball journey began at age 11, rising through elite programs including International (sponsored by José Canseco) and Latin America. As a dual-sport high school athlete, he earned Player of the Year honors in Class 3A Florida, attracting scouts from the Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles. During high school, he trained with MLB veterans Luis Salazar and Rafael Belliard, gaining invaluable insights into professional-level play.
His collegiate career included Palm Beach Community College under Coach Craig Giro and Florida Gulf Coast University on full scholarship. Post-college, Erick worked in the clubhouses of the Montreal Expos and Miami Marlins, where he met future stars including a young Miguel Cabrera during his rookie year.
Coaching Excellence:
Erick honed his instructional expertise during nearly a decade at the renowned Bucky Dent Baseball School in Delray Beach under Larry Hoskins, becoming head catching instructor. He learned pitching mechanics from Dom Thompson, catching techniques from Wally Horsman, fielding from Miguel Cuello, and received personal infield instruction from Hall of Famer Bucky Dent himself.
Mentors & Influences:
Erick's approach has been shaped by exceptional mentors: Nate Robinson (high school athletics), Father John (who provided his Pope John Paul II High School opportunity), and Mike Eason (one of the country's top college coaches who offered him a scholarship). These relationships taught him the importance of giving back and developing the whole athlete.
New York Impact:
Since 2013, Erick has been NYC's go-to baseball instructor, working with Peter Stuyvesant Little League, Westside Little League, and Downtown Little League. In 2019, he made history as the first person to open a batting cage in Tribeca, creating an essential training hub for the city's baseball community.
